Hi, and welcome! My name is Joanna Phillips and I am a stealth medievalist. I completed my PhD in 2017 at the Institute for Medieval Studies, University of Leeds and am now breaking out into a career in university administration. At the same time I am an active researcher; I’m interested in the history of medicine and the crusades, but other things such as travel and transportation, logistics, food and eating, and medieval chronicles – the title of this blog is an homage to my favourite chronicler, Roger of Howden (don’t know who he is? Google him, immediately). Expect musings on history, the Middle Ages, the experience of doing a PhD, and glimpses into the lesser-seen world of university administrators.
